Let’s be real – this is the hardest thing for me to keep organized. There are so many children going in and out of my car each day. Then we have sports seasons and camping trips and I feel like I can never keep things straight. Feel the same way?
But here is what I know – when I have a clean and organized car, I just FEEL better. You know that feeling when you first bought the car or after it has been detailed? That feeling. Where everything is just where it is supposed to be. Guess what? We can have that feeling every day. And to be honest, I think that most of us need this.
If you are like me and spend a lot of time in my car, then this might be something to spend a little bit of time on if it means some peace of mind while you are in your home away from home!
Here are some very practical tips to getting AND keeping your card organized:
To get started:
- Start by taking EVERYTHING out of your car and clean it out really well (pay and get it detailed if you want – if you pay for it then you will want to keep it that way)
- Only put back in things you need.
- For sports – get your kids bags for that sport – keep everything they need in those bags. I also keep one small bag with emergency things (first aid kit, blanket, towel, sunscreen, and extra water bottle)
To KEEP it organized:
- When you get out of the car, take your things with you. This is such an important thing to teach children.
- Pick a day – once a week, once a month…sometime…and clean out your car. Take it to the car wash. Vacuum it out completely.
- Every time you get gas, do the following – Clean out all trash and wipe down with microfiber cloth.
- At least once a week (pick a day) – take out things that shouldn’t be there and vacuum it out. I got this awesome vacuum HERE that I use on a regular basis. It plugs into my cigarette outlet and the kids love to take turns on vacuuming while we are sitting and waiting.
