How is it already October?!?! I feel like this year has FLOWN by! With that being said, it will be Christmas before you know it! For me, I like to plan ahead because Christmas is my favorite time of the year but it can also be the most stressful if we let it. You can start doing some things NOW that will help prepare you for the Christmas rush.
Set a Christmas Budget
YES – a budget! I know that that some of your aren’t even going to read any more past this point but figure out how much you an afford to spend this Christmas. For us, we know that we are spending less this year because of our recent purchase of a camper. Every year, our amount changes. THAT IS OKAY! Decide on how much you can afford overall and then divide it up by the kids, family, friends, and teachers (don’t forget about the teachers).
Buy Gift Cards from Kroger NOW
For us, we purchase gift cards mainly for Amazon. Kroger, you get 2x the fuel points and we always need ways to cut down on the cost of gas.
Make Christmas Lists (and have your kids start making them now too)
When you are talking to people, usually they are saying things that give you some great ideas for them for Christmas. Make a conscious effort now to start keeping a list. Also, we start talking to our kids NOW about what they want. I will not buy everything this early. I save money to buy some things closer to the time (because they will ALWAYS mention something like the week before).
Here is a really cute Christmas List that you can print for free HERE:
Start Cleaning out the Playroom
Start making room NOW for new things. But by doing this now, it also helps you see what your children are playing with more and what they may need.
Secondhand Store / Consignment Shopping
Gifts do not have to be brand new!! My kids get secondhand gifts every year. Yes, we buy some new things too, but if I can find it in good condition for cheaper then why not?!?!
Target $1 Section
Buy those stocking stuffers now when Target keeps putting out cute new things in the $1 section! You have will have plenty of options if you start looking now. When December comes, they do not switch them out as frequently.
Click HERE for a great post on what is a good deal at the dollar section.
And just remember….don’t stress!! Doing these few things ahead of time will allow you to enjoy more of the most wonderful time of the year 🙂
